This Richard Melton is thought to be the son of William Melton , Generation 2, of this web site. This assumption is based on the following information.

Richard Melton acquired two tracts of land a few miles north of Charles City, VA in that part of New Kent Co., VA which later became Hanover, VA before 1700.

Richard Melton joined the Quakers before 1700, but had become associated with the Church of England by 1702 as shown by the baptism of later children.

He lived alongside Peter Field's widow (see William Melton, Generation 2).

He was born ca. 1670 and married ca. 1690. He died in Hanover County, VA between 1719 and 1730. His widow died between 1744 and 1751. All dates are extrapolated from sources listed below.

Quaker Genealogy, Vol. 6, page 198: Richard Melton signed a certificate of marriage in New Kent Meeting House, on February 2, 1700.

Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Vol. 31, p. 224 New Kent County, St. Peter's and St. Paul's Parish 1704, VA Quit Rents, lists Richard Melton with 290 acres of land.
